Hello THC Community, I'm an architecture student trying to pick up a new laptop (for games and school-work) and was hoping for some advice + recommendations. I did try to read through several of the threads but started getting confused (you can tell I'm not too tech-savvy but I'm always learning). Thus, I realized that it was better for me to just fill out the questionaire.

1_What is your budget?
$800 to $1,000 USD

2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
17" or 18" Screen ...This is because I will be doing a lotta detailed renderings on it, hence a larger screen will greatly help me

3_What screen resolution do you want?
I'm not too sure what is best and will just take any great advice on this.

4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Laptop Replacement

5_How much battery life do you need?
The more hours I can get, the better.... I'll always be carrying around the power cords with me anyway.

6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yes, I will mainly be playing FFXIV Online (comes out later this year), so I need a laptop powerful enough to run it.

7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, watching movies, Etc.)
Revit, AutoCAD, Form Z, Photo Editting, Video Editing, Watching Movies, Programming etc..

8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?
240GB+ (or better)... I'll be doing a lot of school work with Revit and its a program that seems to use a lot of HDD. Please advice on this as well.

9_If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them.
Alienware and VooDooPC's, are too expensive and I've heard sooo many mixed reviews about Dell, HP etc. This is one of the reasons why I've been researching all over the net, trying to understand how to purchase (or build?) a laptop within my budget. I know I sound really clueless and lacking PC knowledge, but I'll remain clueless until I ask the experts.

10_How long do you want to keep your laptop?
A few years if possible.

11_What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Please advice on this... I'll be happy if it plays pretty much all kinds of Blueray, DVDs, ROM etc

12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I was reading the forums and saw a lot of great info about Sager and a couple other brands... and yes, if I didn't need my laptop to run Revit and FFXIV, I'd pick an ipad too). That said though, I don't really know what to look for other than what I'd need for high end gaming, video editing, and architectural programs.

13_What country do you live in?
USA

14_Please tell us any additional information if needed.
This laptop will be used a lot mainly cuz it's for college, tasks at home, vacations... I'm looking for durability, and great graphics. I'm not to bothered about sound (I still got a great set of untouched logitec wireless speakers that was given to me as a gift over a year ago... I think I could connect those while playing games, movies etc at home). Thanks in advance!

Ahhh ok, now I understand... I must apologize in advance, but what if my budget went up to about $1,200? What are your recommendations?
