I have a fairly old Compaq Presario V2424nr. Windows XP is ending support tomorrow, so ill probably upgrade to 7. The processor is 64 bit, and my friends dad said that 64 bit computers can have more than 4 GB of ram. But the laptop can only go up to 2 GB. And Windows 7 32 bit needs at least 1 GB, and its not even fully 2 GB because the video card takes up 128 mb. What to do?

The maximum memory for your model is 2GB, it is hardware related not software related. If you have 1GB sticks in each slot, you have maximized the physical limit on the hardware, it won't matter about 32 bit vs 64 bit. If you want more memory, you'll need to buy a new computer.

That being said, you should still upgrade to 7 64 bit.
