cable box to projector via hdmi but need speaker connection

I have an epson 3240 projector which i connected to my cable box via hdmi cable (100 ft in order to place outside from inside house) but i want to connect a speaker system but apparently the red/white audio cable inputs on projector do not work as an output for sound. Is there a solution to this? Thanks in advance

Inputs can't be used as outputs as you discovered.
You can either use the audio outputs from the cable box or use an HDMI audio extractor to provide that output.

The extractor could be placed at the projector end of the HDMI cable so you would not need to run another 100' cable. This output is fixed so you will need a way to adjust the volume on the powered speakers.
