Camera for about ±250$

Hi, I'm looking to buy a camera for about 250.

I've never had a personal camera and I do not know to much about them to buy one without asking for advice. I do not really have a specific model or kind in mind like Cannon, Sony ect. or a mirrorless or non mirrorless camera.

My basic needs whould be: somewhat good zoom capabilities, good image quality, 1080p 60fps video recording if possible at that price range.

Can you give me some options on good deals and I'll look into it, thankyou.

What will serve your needs well is a "Point & Shoot" (P & S) camera and I highly recommend Nikon.

Is Nikon a good brand, I have always thought of then as a lower quality brand. Do you like Cannon?

Though I own a Canon I will say that Nikon is anything but a lower quality brand. Nikon makes some of the best cameras available and are used by professional photographers around the world. Hello again.

After reading a lot about some off the Nikon cameras, mostly the D3100-3300 and 5100-5100, I have been thinking about buying a SLR camera.

I have narrowed it down to the D5100. Mainly because of its lower price and still good image quality and performance for a new SLR user.

What do you think about my choice?

the D5100 is a great camera. Do also check out the Canon 600D & 650D. Similar price range. I personally use a canon and am pretty happy with it. If possible, give a try to both, and then select. Also, think about bridge cameras and mirror-less cameras as well. They are pretty good too. DSLR is a pretty heavy investment, and you might need to spend more on lenses in the future. If that doesn't sound a bit expensive, then go ahead with DSLR's. But do remember this, a DSLR is only as good as the lens it sports.

This would be a great buy and you would be entering into the realm of DSLR photography! Higher budget.

I really feel as a beginner to digital photography you should stick to point-n-shoots. My suggestions is get a cheaper Point-n-shoot, get used to it, and then upgrade to a mirrorrless or DSLR. DSLR's take a lot of getting used to, and for a beginner, it would be pretty overwhelming. Though all DSLR's come with an auto mode, you won't be doing it a lot of justice, plus you will be limited by the lenses. A good zoom lens would cost you quite a lot, whereas you can get upto 50x optical zoom with point n shoot bridge cameras. I really feel that for your requirement, a bridge is best suited. It's like learning to drive for the first time, in a ferrari. Except that the Ferrari won't have auto-pilot.
(P.S. - Buying a DSLR has become quite a hype these days. Or so I feel)

Nikon and Canon is good
