I want to change my number. I have a brand new sim card, can I activate it into an old phone?

Yup! You should be able to activate the SIM card regardless of what phone you're using. Any phone retail store should be able to do that for you, perhaps even major retailers like Best Buy and Walmart (assuming you are in the US). Just make sure you get a SIM card that will fit into your phone!
