can i connect my android to my portable dvd player to watch movies?

I want to watch movies on my portable dvd player that ive downloaded on my phone. --to play movies frm my phone to dvd player.
Is there some trick to hooking the two up?
Does anyone know of a homemade cord i can make for this to work?

The HDMI port (if there is one) on the DVD player is output only. You can't display other content on the DVD player screen.
