not really

on laptops there may be guide rails on the side of the dvd/cd drive and an adaptor on the back of it as well to make

the connector in the right place for the particular model

its sometimes possible to remove these and screw them onto a new drive but not guaranteed

plus some drives are different thickness

what model is it?

its not the fact that its ide or sata thats the problem its the physical fit and the fact that even if its for example ide

some makers put an adaptor on the back because the motherboard ide connector is in a different position on their

laptop motherboard

so the adaptor for example moves the ide connector on the drive from the right side to the left side to make it in the

right place to connect to their motherboard

best bet is remove the drive and get the model number from it and see if you can get an identical one
