can i run 500 watt speakers on a 550 watt amplifier?

Yes. Not enough of a difference to worry about.
But be aware that the power ratings on some speakers and amplifiers are pretty inaccurate because there are no standards in how they are measured. So if you have an amp that is correctly rated at 550 watts and a speaker that is rated 500 watts but is really only capable of taking more than 200 watts for 1 second you can blow it easily. If the speaker rating is accurate and the amp rating is bogus then you could damage the tweeters of the speakers because of the distortion created by driving the amp into clipping Might not be good for the amp either.
