I have an HP ENVY dv6t-7300 CTO laptop and the processor sucks, I can't play any good games or run good video editing software. I was wondering if I could change the processor of the laptop to boost its speed? if so how?
it would be helpful if you could tell me.
thx

In this case, it may not be replaceable then. There are two socket variants for this CPU, a pin grid array and a ball grid array, but given that the BGA socket is smaller and HP tends to go towards soldered CPUs, I think it's likely you have the latter (you can always...

Based on what I could find you can replace the CPU. Pictures I found of the motherboard show the CPU is removable.

Looking at the user guide it is compatible with the following i7 Intel CPU.

GHz processor (SC turbo up to 3.80-
GHz; 1600-MHz FSB, 8.0-MB L3 cache,
45 W)

It's unlikely the reason you have poor performance is your CPU. The problem more likely is at least for the games -- hard to tell as you haven't provided your specs and it's hard to nail down every Envy variant -- the integrated graphics, which you can't do anything about.

The current processor is an Intel Corei5 2450m 2.50 GHz. The memory is 8gb of DDR3. I know the laptop is 5 years old, almost everything is old and outdated one of the main reasons I want to upgrade everything I can.

The exact specs are -
Intel Core i5 2450m 2.50 GHz - processor
8gb DDR3 - Memory/RAM
Intel Graphics 3000 - Graphics
250gb HDD

In this case, it may not be replaceable then. There are two socket variants for this CPU, a pin grid array and a ball grid array, but given that the BGA socket is smaller and HP tends to go towards soldered CPUs, I think it's likely you have the latter (you can always check if there's any way to remove the CPU).

The bigger problem is the lack of a GPU. There's no cure for that. Laptops are very rarely significant upgradeable; purchases should always be made in the frame of mind that there will be very limited upgrades.
