Cannot connect my headphones to sony kld 40 ex 20. Must be missing something?

Struggling to connect my headphones to sony kdl40ex720

Specs say there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. Check the side of the TV as well as the rear. You may need to set it to headphone rather than line level out and variable out so the TV remote will change the volume.
