I'm trying to unlock 3rd and 4th cores when i turn "ec" to hybrid and acc to auto, why won't my amd phenom 2 x2 550 post? mobo is a gigabyte ma790x ud4p, bios ver f5...the only thing i can think, is that the 500w psu isn't enough. has anyone else had this problem?

It just depends on your BIOS. Most of the newer boards don't have the proper micro-code to allow the SB750 to unlock the extra cores. Still, most of the gigabyte boards should work. Anyway, it means that your CPU really has defective cores. You may want to manually change the ACC settings, but even if you get an extra one or two cores, chances are they won't be stable.

1) A decent 500w is sufficient for any cpu - dont fall for the fudd hype with PSU's
2) Dont expect the same overclock/mod results others get - all chips are different.

Its possible those cpu's are not working properly (failed chips). Your psu should handle if those cpu's did work.

Hi, you may show your BIOS screen photo on the page for you unlock the 3rd and 4th cores so we can see if you were overlooked anything.

not to mention what batch was the CPU from? There are batches of gold and batches of turd in terms of unlocking lol, the gold ones were like 0922 ones or something.

you need to see the numbers on the cpu it self, the batch number is on there and have a set of number that is like 09** (made in 2009, week of **)

Hi, :hello:

Hybrid/Auto is correct, I unlocked cores 3 & 4, 3 days ago with help from this thread here:

No, its still a dual core..... You can't unlock with a motherboard that has an nvidia chipset. Only SB710's and SB750's will unlock

Also read this Unlocking Blocked Cores pg15 at xbitlabs, they deal with Overclocking the 550 as well:

same thing happened to me when i put ec to hybrid and auto the pc powers off then turns back on but nothing displays at all and then turns off again. It might be the same problem ur having but i think that the other 2 cores are faulty.
