I'm new to digital photography and I've narrowed it down to these two cameras as they're both $150 off, which would be the better buy? The Sony seems to have better reviews but many I've asked say the Canon hands down.

Solution
The Canon is a point and shoot with a zoom lens, and the Sony is a superzoom, so it is not a direct comparison.

I linked to a review of each to help in your choice. From a purely picture quality standpoint, the Sony is the better camera in my opinion.
