Can't connect laptop to TV using hdmi lead anymore

Basically, I have a laptop and the screen broke but I can still use it through the tv screen using a hdmi lead, but the tv won't display my laptop screen, I can't go onto any settings on my laptop due to the fact the screen is broke, I have a toshiba laptop and a lg tv. It has worked perfectly before just not now. Any help?.

Most laptops have a key combination to swap to an external display. Something like FN + F6. Windows has a built in option Start + P (4 times and them enter should give external screen only, but never used this method.)

Always make sure the TV is on the right HDMI input and some times hot plugging(plug in HDMI once booted) will get windows to auto switch to a new screen as well.
