Can't Hear Myself Through Mic

I recently got a new headset and cannot hear myself when I talk through the mic. My old headset let me hear myself while I talked on skype and it had a usb connector aswell as audio and mic jacks while the new one I got only has usb. I was just wondering if there is a way to allow me to hear myself while i'm talking to friends. Also i've tried to go into the properties on my recording device on windows and when I turn that setting on it delays my replayed voice by a few milliseconds and it sounds weird. i think it is like this, with some delay. i also had a headset like this, it is annoying.
not sure if there's a work around though. as your voice have to travel back, then to your ears.

i now have a different setup, much better, but had to buy a few things.
