Thanks in advance guys. I have a Toshiba laptop, 4gb ram, running windows 8. From day 1 the only recording option has been the external microphone - and YES Ive ticked the 'show disabled devices' icon. this is extremely difficult as I record music clips from youtube and also mix and edit my own music. After some 6-7 hours of research it appeared that I needed Codec or driver for recording system sounds directly from the system. so I downloaded Realtek stereomix, but after installing it and restarting - it still doessnt show up in the recording devices under system sounds (essentially my pc is acting as though it hasnt even been installed) Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Start by uninstalling/reinstalling the Sound card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound driver.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver from Toshiba's Support site.
- Here's the link where you download drivers for your laptop. http://support.toshiba.com/drivers
- Reboot your laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do install K-lite codec for the complete package of codecs.
- Here's the download link: http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_full.htm
- Once installed reboot your laptop then test it again.
