I was thinking, what if there was a way to create/upgrade a car so that it would sustain minimal damage while protecting the driver as much as possible. This would probably involve some manipulation of kinetic energy as opposed to pure strength of the material that the car is made of, but is there a way for this hypothetical car idea to be achieved?

This is sort of the opposite of the 'crumple zone' idea that almost all modern cars are built around, at least for high speed crashes.

For low-speed parking lot incidents, some kind of foam or rubber bumper would be more effective.

Not sure what you mean by 'manipulation of kinetic energy'.
