Need the ability to connect a 9 month old Sony stereo system suround sound Without an HDMI port into a new Sharp Roku smart TV. It apears the only way to connect your stereo equipment to this Sharp TV is with a HDMI cable. Sharp Roku is not smart enough for AV cables. In general, surround must go through HDMI or Optical, those are you only choices.

do not need HDMI on older Vizio or 2 YO insignia using same Sony system. Also, Sharp Optical must be hiding and the two audio jacks won't light anything either.

Some older equipment have coax RCA-type DIGITAL OUT, often labeled as SPDIF can also do surround, and is a close cousin of Optical and can be converted easily with an inexpensive gadget.

Not sure why not having some audio out connection is "bad", would you complain that you can't fit 20 tons of cargo into a sports car? Need to read the equipment specs before purchasing, getting the wrong thing is not the fault of the manufacturer but I read a lot of reviews of items that people complain about because they did not simply read the specs and see if it will work for what they need. The cheaper the equipment the less likely it will have a feature you are looking for like multiple audio outs.

Heck, I just read a 1 star review for a mechanical keyboard where they said it was much louder than their "standard" keyboard, that was pretty funny since one of the first thing someone learns about mechanical keyboards is that most are louder than the membrane ones. Bad review caused by lack of information, not the product fault.
