CCleaner Does Not Prompt While or After Updating

When the installation process of CCleaner program finishes, on the final window the program asks users if they want to allow the application to automatically update itself every time it detects new updates. Users can control the automatic update feature by checking or unchecking the displayed checkbox on the final window.

If, due to any reason, users fail to properly configure the automatic update feature in the program at the time of installation, they can do so from within the CCleaner interface itself. In most cases, users do allow CCleaner to check and install the new updates automatically. However when the program detects and installs the updates, the users are prompted with a notification that keeps the users informed that their instance of CCleaner has been successfully updated.

If you, as a CCleaner user, are unable to view such notifications, and the CCleaner program automatically updates itself without informing you by any means, this means that the program has been accidentally or deliberately configured not to prompt for the updates whatsoever. Although there is no harm in leaving these settings intact as well, it might be a good idea to be informed when the program interacted with the CCleaner server and downloaded the updates. This might also help you assess the total Internet consumption that took place due to the CCleaner program if you have installed any network bandwidth monitor on the computer, or anywhere else in the network.

After going through the steps given in this tutorial, you will be able to disable the silent update feature that the CCleaner program has.

Here’s what you need to do:

■Log on to the computer using administrator account.

■Initialize CCleaner application by double-clicking its icon.

■On the opened interface, from the left navigation pane, click to select the Options button.

■From the displayed contextual navigation bar in the center of the interface, click to select the Settings category.

■On the Settings interface that is available at the right of the CCleaner window, ensure that the Automatically check for updates to CCleaner checkbox is checked.

■Uncheck the Enable silent background updates checkbox.
