CF Cards in Canon PowerShot A200?

I picked up a Canon PowerShot A200 (2002 era) that works with its OEM Canon 8MB CF Type 1 card.

However, the card holds only about 20 photos.

I just tried two different SanDisk Ultra ii 4GB memory cards, but the camera was unable to read them.

Would any size of Type i card work?

Is there an upper limit of Type ii card that I can use, or does the camera just not read Type ii?

The user guide only lists Type 1 cards and the largest one listed is 128MB (FC-128M).
