"ZIP" compressed file format is kind of "standard" - it is well defined, and there're lot of applications (even Windows Explorer as old as in XP) supporting it. Using particular application is more or less question of preferences (and additional features). I prefer WinZip since the MS-DOS time when it was called ARC.EXE
