This article is not correct. There are 2 different phases, plotting and farming. Plotting, generating the large blobs of data(plots), can wear out drives, but once you fill up what disk space you plan to use, you don't plot anymore.
Farming is read only and has little impact on the longevity of the drive. Most use regular disks for farming.
