Clicking noises on Lenovo x201

Hey there,

I've had a Lenovo x201 for about 2 years now and apart from getting the fan replaced six months ago, have never had a problem. Yesterday, I had an issue where malware made it onto my laptop via a Chrome extension but this was successfully removed. Since then, my laptop starts clicking whenever the processing light lights up. It's never done this before. Can someone please tell me what is causing this, if it is a cause for concern and what I can do about it, please?

Thank you so much. Can leaving a laptop on for long periods cause this to happen? Also, I have rebooted my laptop after it being off for majority of the night and the clicking has now stopped. Is that still an issue?

leaving it on wouldn't cause issue. I would still do regular backup just in case
