computer to powered speaker connection

I have a plug with three wires from the output of my laptop. I want to connect to a Genius hi-fi speaker system. I have used an adapter but have only one channel. what can I do to connect for stereo?

Your laptop likely uses a 3.5mm headphone jack but we have no idea what your hi-fi speaker system has for inputs.
