Connect PC to stereo system

Currently sound goes to monitor speakers thru the HDMI connection.

I want to cable out of the green connector on the sound card to stereo AUX connectors. I did it but sound still goes thru HDMI and not sound card.

Windows 7. How can I switch to the sound card from HDMI and back again.

at a guess..... right click small speaker icon on far right of taskbar, click playback devices, right click on whatever output you wish to use, click on set as default device, click apply.
