I have purchased a Samsung Bluray player and home theater system, model HT-FM45. I set the bluray player up with my Samsung HD TV, it sounds nice and plays movies clearly. What I want to do is connect the home theater speakers to play sound from my xbox and dish channels. I select the "External Speakers" from the tv menu but no sound come out. The blueray player is connected by HDMI and has Anynet+. Anything I am doing wrong?

If your TV has an optical audio output, you should connect that to the optical input on your home theater system. Otherwise, you would need to get an HDMI switch to connect your devices (XBox, Dish Set top box) to your home theater's HDMI input.

Yes, my TV has an optical audio output, so does my bluray player. What exactly am i supposed to plugin to it?

A digital optical cable:

This will enable the external speaker function of your TV. The optical cable will transfer the TV's audio to your home theater speakers.
