connect tuner to soundbar

Have a brand new DAB+ Yamaha D-T500 tuner that I want to attach to a Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar. Have tried optical connection between the two and optical from tuner to 3.5mm jack on soundbar and both options doesn't produce any sound. The tuner doesn't have an HDMI socket.

You could go from the analog out on the tuner (the two RCA female jacks) to the analog in on the soundbar (1/8" stereo jack) with one of these.

You won't get 7.1.2 though unless you use the digital....which I think should work....and I don't understand why it doesn't.
