Connecting HDMI Blu-Ray Player to DVI TV

Hi there. I have an HP-P3761 Samsung TV, circa 2005. I am trying to hook it up through a fairly new SONY Blu ray player. Using an Amazon HDMI to DVI cable, I am able to get the video to work. There is a red audio jack in the back of the blu ray player to which I can attach the red and white audio cables to the TV.

It definitely sounds like there's a connection there. It's a low audio hum--not nothing--but also not audio. I've tried a few solutions, from messing with the volume to the settings, to no avail. The various explanations online feel so arcane and confusing, I'm wondering if the best solution is simply to get a new TV.

Is there a better, easier, cheaper way?

You probably need to change the configuration on the Bluray player. It is sending audio to the HDMI by default. There is probably a setting to change the audio output device to the analog outputs.

Thank you. I feel like this is closer. There is an option to change audio from auto to PCM. When I do that, I can actually make out words and music, but it's full of static. Any advice?

Looking at your manual, the tv's DVI connection accepts audio. Lists it as an video and audio input.

Maybe by having both DVI and RCA is causing the humming?

Tried unplugging the RCA cables and it resulted in no sound whatsoever. Is it best for me to just get a newer TV or is there an adapter I should try. It feels like this is really close to a solution. I'm just stuck.

The rca inputs on tv, are they assigned to a different channel like av 1? Do you get sound if you change channel but no picture?

A singe red RCA jack on the back of a BD players isn't an analog audio output. A singe one can't carry stereo.
It may be a coax digital audio output (usually orange rather than red though). Check the owners manual.
The DVI has a stereo analog audio input. You can get a digital to analog converter to connect them.
If you are ready for a new TV anyway just do it.
