Connecting Laptop with VGA to a Projector with HDMI?

I have a laptop with VGA port (Lenovo Y400) and I am thinking of getting a projector (cheap Chinese made UC40) with HDMI input.
I was thinking of getting a VGA to HDMI cable (http/www.ebay.com.sg/itm/6ft-1-8M-HDMI-Male-to-VGA-HD-15-15Pin-Male-Adapter-Cable-Cord-for-DVD-HDTV-EB-/181774885878?hash=item2a52a0a3f6:g:t60AAOSwBahVdTrG), but it seems it will not work without some kind of converter which codes/decodes the analog to digital signals (http/www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011404&p_id=6191&seq=1&format=2&AID=11051853&PID=6147576&ref=cj&utm_source=cj&utm_medium=11051853&utm_term=VigLink-2470763).
Any other way to connect these 2 ?

actually, the projector itself is around 100, so no point in getting a VGA to HDMI converter for another 100 !!

Is it safe to say that the ebay cable won't work without a analog to digital converter ?
the projector seller seems to think it will - at least till he sells his item.

A passive adapter (cable included) is not able to convert an analog signal to digital or vice versa.
