Connecting new Dvd to older plasma tv (2008)

I am trying to connect my new smart dvd player (Samsung BD-J5700) to my older tv (LG 42PC5D). They both have HDMI cable in/out. I have connected the two with a HDMI ethernet cable, but the tv will not connect to the player, it just says "no signal"...I've checked and my tv supports: 1080i, or 1080p HDMI input resolutions but not 720p. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe they just aren't compatible?

Your TV has a native resolution of 1024 x 768 so if you can set the BD player to that setting or lower try it. Connect it to another TV, assuming it works there change the setting in the video menu and try it on your old plasma TV.
