I am trying to connect my PC to my receiver or TV to play Witcher 3 on it. I have a Sony STR-DG720 receiver and a Pc with i5 3.2 and a Radeon HD7970 video card. My TV is 1080 capable (Sony) as is my receiver. My receiver also has no issues with hooking up a PS4.

However, when I disconnect my HDMI from my PC monitor and hook an HDMI cable from my PC video card HDMI slot to the HDMI slot on the receiver that I was using for the PS4 with no issues, I get a black screen and it says no input. If I hook the HDMI cord directly to my TV, I get video but no sound (none from the TV or receiver). Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

pc->receiver->tv via hdmi
make sure you do this with the system OFF! and then start up the system. otherwise, hdmi handshaking is an issue and you may get no signal.

the above is how i connect myself (tv is my main screen, i'm not using it intermittently).

other things of note: make sure your resolution is 1080p (is your main monitor 1080p or some different resolution) and also that you're outputting at standard 60hz. some tvs also require GAME MODE to be turned on for pc or using a special pc use hdmi. try those.

if you intend to only use the tv intermittently and do not need it to show your desktop just the game you may want to instead have it hooked up to your gpu's second hdmi jack (or dvi if using a dvi to hdmi cable) and have it on another input on the receiver and just change (in windows) to multi monitor - extend whenever you want to use the tv. you can then drag the game over to the screen and play on it. this is handy if you want to read other things on your main monitor while playing at the same time.
