connecting phone to stereo

So i have this old stereo system, which i hope ill be able to connect my phone to.

I think i need a 3.5 mm to rca cable.

Then i plug it into my phone and then into the aux or phono inputs on the reciever/amp.

Then i can open youtube or spotify and play music from my phone to the speakers, am i right?

Or is it impossible to connect my phone to the stereo system?

if you can plug earbuds into a phone, you can plug a stereo into a phone.

It'll work, turn your phone down to at least half first though just to be safe. There will be an impedance mismatch and the levels may be wrong so once it's hooked up play around with the phone volume until it sounds about right.
