Connecting to surround sound

Can I connect a Logitech 5.1 surround sound to my laptop. It is currently connected to a desktop but I'm wanting to clear it out for extra space. Would I need to buy a adapter if so what sort would u need and where could I buy one ? Please help as I'm not very computer savvy .

The existing speakers are currently plugged into a desktop computer and I want to know if there is a adapter that I can get to plug into a laptop allowing me to then connect the 5.1 speakers

How are the speakers connected to the desktop? Just trough a single 3.5mm jack or are they actually connected to individual jacks for each speaker and the sub? The audio out jack on the laptop would be the same as the audio out jack on the desktop for a normal 3.5mm connection.
