Hi,

I recently bought a new motherboard and when i installed it, I discovered a core unlocker button.

What exactly is core unlocking and should i do it on this build ?

Motherboard : ASUS M5A88-M
CPU : AMD Athlon II X4 640
PSU : OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
GPU : EVGA NVIDIA 460GTX 1GB
HDD : WD Caviar Green 750GB 7200RPM 64MB
RAM : Corsair Vengeance 2X4 GB 1333MHZ

Your Athlon II X4 640 has no locked cores.
So in your case the core unlocker button won't do anything for you.

Some AMDs have hidden cores (locked cores) which can be unlocked.
An example would be AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz CPU. There is a 4th core physically present on the CPU. It was locked out for failing to meet AMDs quality control testing standards, or in some cases, for marketing reasons to have a supply of X3 CPUs to sell.
