My strategy to save $$$ on 130$+ TWC bill reducing it to $41.49 before tax: dropped Internet completely and use on cell phone now which uses unlimited data AT&T service, downgrade from preferred cable (aka variety pass) plan to standard cable 39.99, turned in DVR for regular box then turned that in for a Digital Adapter 1.50. The loss of a few channels, PPV, guide, pausing & recording is not hard to adjust & much easier knowing TWC not ripping me every month. Feels damn good!

They do try and make it as difficult as possible on you to downgrade & I had to twist the guys arm to get std cable for 39. When swapping my cable box for a DTA the lady tried to say she thought you had to have at least 1 cable box. Seems like half the reps tell you something different & the department that handles downgrading service is downright deceptive as hell....they'll say anything just to squeeze a few extra bucks out of ya. Since they are TWC I'll continue to be on the lookout for ways to cut even more cost, even a few dollars saved would be sweet to get down in the 30s. !!!

Yeah, try this. I signed up for just Internet with Cox, and before they'd even installed it I got a call from them offering to give me basic cable + HBO + a tuner for $10/mo extra for one year. No contract for a second year - I can drop the TV service or sign up for whatever sale they're having for new subscribers after the first year is up.

Get a leaf antenna and pick up over-the-air TV broadcasts while you're without cable service. If you're in a good area, you may even decide to forgo cable TV entirely.
