Hi All

I have a HP ZD8290 laptop with a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading but the fan comes on a lot and it drives me crazy it's a socket LGA775 I was just wondering is there a way to make it run cooler or is there another type of processor or something like a pentium d or pentium dual core that i can put in it to make it run cooler

it's a really good computer its just the fan runs way too much

Also it runs on the ide interface and i would like to put an ssd in it, not just for speed but more so for reliability could i buy an ide to mini pci adapter and a 64gb mini pci adapter

thanks

I you tried cleaning the heatsink & maybe the fan with compressed air?
your cpu family http://ark.intel.com/products/series/20862/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-500-Series-supporting-Hyper-Threading-Technology#@Desktop
you might be able to use dual core halfway down this link http://ark.intel.com/products/family/78132/Legacy-Intel-Pentium-Processor#@Desktop but depends on your bios to correct id a dual care cpu or even if hp has a bios update for your laptop to do that.
do you have to room to put those adapters in the laptop? I think you would be better off getting a newer lapto & either giving that laptop to a kid or sell it tho won't get much.

yes i have tried blowing it out with compressed air i wouldnt mind if the fan came on a little bit but even sitting there with no programs open the fan blasts at max speed and then goes off I wouldn't mind compromising on speed it currently has a pentium 4 3.4ghz supporting hyper threading i have a pentium dual core, a pentium d and a celeron dual core lying around that i have tried to put in the machine but it wont turn on with any of them all i want is a balance between speed and silence i dont mind the fan coming on every now and then but this is excessive
