Laopto: Lenovo Twist (s230u). 3 years old machine.
Warranty Status: Under extended warranty for the next few months. Extended depot warranty.

Problem: A minor crack has developed into bigger. Pictures uploaded in the link:

It didn't happen due to any physical damage or such thing. Kindly let me know:

(1) if this would be covered in extended warranty? There is no damage to the screen yet. So far the machine is working okay, though if close the monitor, then monitor panel comes in the way.

(2) If it is not expected to be covered under warranty, then what could be the cost of the parts to be replaced and what that part would be called?

My knowledge on computers is quite basic, so hopefully described the issue properly.

Thank you for the help.

Going by the shape of the system, unless you have warranty vs damage they will not cover that. It looks way too much like a drop or someone hit the system, and going by the scratches on the lid and paint work off the hinges that system was not taken care of well. Contact Lenovo and see what they say, but damage like that does not just happen on it's own.

Hi,

If the crack is not induced by the user that should be covered by the warranty bu cracks like that would only mean that it was accidentally drop or bumped onto a hard surface that is not covered by the standard warranty unfortunately unless your extended warranty is a Lenovo Accidental Damage Protection.

Here are Standard and Accidental warranties.

Here's the Lenovo site where you can order that part.

Once being a lenovo tech that would be under damage, unless that is a hinge style defect. Call them first.

Repair for them 120 dollars for beveal and work. Most repair shops about the same. Part itself is 40 on eBay but u need experience to do it.
