Ancient history Strath - we discussed this at length some time ago. I
contacted Nikon and they indicated that it would be at least this summer
before the camera came out, if at all.

Interesting how February 8, 2005, the date when Nikon filed for the
trademark, is ancient history!

Anyhow, you're right -> looks like a May introduction date right now
and then the usual 4-6 months before it hits shelves. Since I am so
far behind in my ancient history lessons, did your pals at Nikon give
you any idea of specs?

This rumour, HASN'T been confirmed by Nikon Canada. But to follow Nikon's
model numbers a D50 would be based on a F55, would have a low cost body.
Based on the D70 body selling for CDN: $970, this would mean a MSRP of CDN:
$600-700 to compete with the 300D. So unless Nikon is calling the D100
replacement the D50, it will be a low cost camera.

It is if we had a very long thread about it a few weeks ago.

There would be no 300D. The production has been stopped and the
inventory dries up so fast that Canon stops putting 300D on the list for
the wholesalers.

If there were D50, it would be the lowest cost SLR when release.

Any news items confirming that?

Then Nikon will probably have the lowest priced entry level dSLR, which
will be a plus for them.
