Hi Guys,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3542 Laptop with 4GB DDR3L ram. I'm going to replace it with 8GB ram. My friend who has a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop with a 4GB SODIMM ram likes to use my old DDR3L ram with his 4GB SODIMM. Is it ok to use both rams together?

yes.
DDR3L is a dual voltage capable memory SoDIMM, which supports operation at both 1.5V and 1.35V. DDR3L is also pin-compatible with DDR3. DDR3 is a single voltage capable memory SoDIMM, which supports 1.5V operation only.Aug 10, 2015
