Solved! Dell inspiron 1100 small display image

reinstalled os in dell 1100 ... display is now smaller... aout 5 x 7 inches... surrounded by black border... any ideas ???

Load the drivers for the chipset and video, and everything else mother board related. That should fix it, if not, adjust the resolution.
