I am trying to connect to an external monitor which is a new Samsung model and I'm using a 15pin male to male monitor cable, just purchased, when I plug the cable into the laptop the screen on the laptop goes black, the monitor screen says - check signal cable. any ideas on how to fix?

Hi,
When your connecting another monitor into your laptop you'll need to sometime select how you would like to use it. Press the Windows key + P then select either "Duplicate or Extended display" and press enter after selecting from those 2 and that should take care of your problem.
