No liquid spill that I am aware of. I have seen this problem on a lot of forums with no absolute answer, although a few people have indicated motherboard issue. One site did advise to hold down a couple a keys for five seconds (I think both shift keys) and that actually fixed it for about a week.
The first thing to do before starting to repair anything is to check your laptop warranty. If this one is still valid, then you just have to send your laptop to your manufacturer and thus have it fixed for free.
