Dell Vostro 3500 HELP

I have a vostro 3500 and it kept overheating whenever I decided to play any game, so I decided to open it up to clean the fan and change thermal paste, but I guess the paste I applied on was kinda old.

Now when I try to switch it on the laptop will go off after a few secs(as if its shutting itself down to prevent damage from overheating), even managed to get to windows once, could it be the paste? could Ive damaged the motherboard? any thoughts?

Open it up again and apply NEW paste after cleaning off the old stuff...

Now you are going to have to open it up again and see what you dislodged the first time...you MUST have either dislodged something or NOT reconnected something...
