Hi,

On dell's site I customized an xps15 with i7-2670QM, nividia GeForce GT 540M 2GB graphics with Optimus, and 8GB ram...
for ~1325$+tx

The G53sx I was targetting comes with the same processor, 12GB ram (same speed), and nividia GeForce GTX 560M - 2 GB GDDR5 SDRAM...
for 1500$+tx

So, simple question, is the additional 4GB of memory and the graphics card upgrade worth the difference?

I originally wanted a ~1000-1200$ laptop, (so even the xps15 is blowing my initial budget) but I also want something that will last, so I'm wondering if maybe I should extend my limit.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Hello mgwildi;

Pretty big difference between GT 540M and GTX 560M in gaming.

If you want to stay close to your $1000 budget goal and get better gaming performance look at this option:
Sager NP6165 custom 15" gaming notebook ~$1049 when configured with Core i7 CPU and Win7
Core i7-2670QM CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HDD, 15.6" 1920x1080 LCD w/ Geforce GT 650M graphics card.
That GT 650M's performance is between the old GTX 460M and the GTX 560M.

Hello!

Thanks alot for your replies! kind of stopped me from buying something too fast...!

in the end, I decided to save up some money and wait for the MSI GT60 / GT70, which both everything I was looking for (and maybe more..?), for just a little more $$$ since they'll be available at a local store... (shipping costs to Canada on xoticpc are... somewhat too high, imo)
