Dialogues are not audible through speakers

I was watching a movie today on my dekstop that I had watched many times earlier but I noticed that the dialogues were not audible even the the background music was crystal clear
Then I tried watching it with my headphones on and then I could here all the dialogues clearly.
Is there any way that I can get my speakers back to normal.
(They are 2.1 speakers)

A center channel and speaker are very important for movie dialogue.

sounds like you may be listening to the 5.1 soundtrack with 2.1 speakers. Make sure your speaker setup in windows control panel>sound is set up for 2 channel and the media player you are using also has to be set for 2 channel.
