Difference between ghz and turbo ghz

I am looking into buying a laptop and have come across a computer saying 2.4 ghz 3.0 turbo ghz

its 2.4 ghz but when it encounters increased workload (like playing a game or rendering, encrypting something), it will boost itself automatically to 3.0 ...

so its safe to assume that it is 3.0

it means that the cpu will run at its stock speed of 2.4 ghz, but you can activate its turbo mode, letting it run at 3.0 ghz. it is faster in turbo mode, but it will generate more heat and take more power, thus lowering battery life.

You are mostly right but mostly its manual and not automatic meaning that the default is 2.4ghz and has an option which clocks it to 3ghz but while doing so uses more heat and power consumption.

there are a ton of factors that will change how well you can play, but if you are getting a laptop that allows a turbo clock, it is probably a pretty good laptop. could you post a link to it?

I have a Sandy Bridge i7 processor and it came with an Intel driver that does the overclock for me. Intel has a program called turbo boost that will show you the speed. My processor is 2630 QM with a base clock rate of 2.0 but using turbo boost it's always about 2.5. The max turbo boost is 2.9 GHZ.

There are currently several laptops i am still considering, my budget is $1400. I have photos of the specs not links.

2.4 and 3.0 is enough for gaming... the other question is how many cores there are... but if its an i5 or i7 it is hands down ok... anything better than that wouldnt do much and should be spent more on a graphics card...
