Different Media Check Fail?

I am getting a check media fail when I boot up my Alienware 14 after having changed out the HDD for an SDD. The system boots just fine after that, but does not recognize the optical drive. Is this likely a connection problem (the little plastic clip broke that helps attach the optical drive to the mother board, but I can still push the tab into the slot ok), or is this a configuration problem resulting from changing the HDD for an SSD?

I tried again pushing what was left of the clip (the cross piece) down into the slot together with the connector tab from the optical drive. To all appearances, it is in as securely as it would be with an intact clip, but still the media check fails.What am I missing?
