I think the delay is a mistake. Every station in our area and ton's of web sites have been stating that Feb 17, 2009 is the day. Now they will have to say "just kiding" and delay to June 12, 2009. I bet that just as many people will still not be ready. Since many stations were planning on changing the frequency, location or other transmitting plans, they will have to come up with new plans which will cost yet more money. Sometimes we just need to move on and everyone will catch up sooner or later.

The Senate has merely passed a bill for the delay but neither the House has signed off on it or Obama. Obama has spoken out against so even IF the House approves Obama could veto or pocket veto it and it would accomplish nothing.

I'm in favor of the delay. Digital signals are not watchable over as long a range as the analog signals, and the original February cut-over date was obviously not planned by someone who is concerned about people climbing up on their snowy rooftops to upgrade their antennas. The inconvenient date was probably concocted by someone more interested in auctioning off the spectrum to big campaign contributors, as well has giving people more incentive to switch to a pay service like cable. Plus, my local stations haven't figured out how to sync the sound and picture yet.

Note to people who don't realize that 'analog' antennas are exactly the same as 'digital' antennas: the tuned frequency of the antenna is what matters, not what it's receiving. Those metal parts couldn't care less what the content is.

By the way you don't have to put up a new antenna. That comment about climbing a tower in the winter is nonsense. All that is needed is a different tuner or a TV with one in it.
And I don't think that even if there TV did stop working that an elderly or poor person is going to miss out on any important service messages. Last I checked AM/FM radio is still going to be working.

I can't believe this bs! 1st off, I am completely opposed to every aspect of this entire program; but, WTF did these cards even have expiration dates? Shouldn't the expiration dates have been the same for all cards (namely Feb 17 ,2009)?

Didn't the change over only require that all analog broadcasts end on Feb 17th? To me this means that broadcasters could have turned off their analog at any time before that date.

If I was a broadcaster that invested millions on dollars on new equipment for a Feb 17th change over, I would stick with the plan of changing over on the 17th. I would also give a swift kick to the hind quarters of those people who waited to the last minute or let their rebate coupons expire.

Instead of the failed rebate program the government should have just subsidized the price at some other level in the chain; manufacturer, distribution, or retail and then the boxes would have been $10 to $20 at the store and the this problem of expired rebates and waiting lists would not have existed.

It is a little mismanaged. Several of the vouchers are not going out due to lack of funds because someone did not plan ahead or congress failed to release enough funds to handle the demand.

Buying a digital television isn't exactly on my list of priorities.
My apartment building will not allow tenants to install cable. I heard a rumor that we are allowed to have satellite in our building but I am not sure about that and I will not be able to set it up in time.

So yeah I would be seeing snow on my set come February 17 in downtown los angeles.
