DIY broken motherboard

Solution
Main problem you can face is that most common MBoards are not only single layered. The complexity even a few years back was having multiple layered solder points not just the visable top and underside, but also one or two extra layers in between! So you might be sucessful at desoldering and salvage of the DVI port but, trying to use again might be a whole new ball game! Suggest you might be ok with the USB but, try to get a Jaycar Yearly Componant catalog as these are a great source of component pin outs in the back. Good Luck!
