Do I need a speaker load?

I have a Marantz PM 8004 and want to run some powered speakers out of the 1. Preamp out or 2. Headphone out. I don't want to use passive speakers though. Do I still have to have speakers connected to the speaker terminals of the Marantz?

u can connect it to preamp out (its pre amp afterall)

u dont need to, u can connect another amp or powered speakers to it

I have a Marantz PM 8004 stereo receiver that I run my CD player and turntable through. I have some powered speakers that I want to run through the preamp out jacks or the headphone jack. Do I need to have passive speakers plugged it, ie. a speaker load? I want to sell my passive speakers to clean up the room. Thanks!

Connect active spkrs to PREOUT, leave speakers outs unconnected, u don't need any "load."
