Do these two things work together

RX-V371 amplifier work with a ASUS Xonar D1 7.1 Channel PCI Low Profile Sound Card 24BIT Dolby Dvs DH Dpliix DD
I can't figure out why I am not getting true 5.1 So I am thinking about buying a new sound card for my new home theater. I am running a motherboard with z68a-gd80 b3 with and optical cord because that what I was recommended

The hookup you describe should work. You have done the setup on the receiver? Is the receiver in Auto surround mode?
To find out where the problem is I would connect a dvd or bluray via optical to the receiver and see if it will show that you are getting 5.1 input from that. If so they you have to check the PC setup.
